Your Guide to Exploring the “Slotharium”

Sloth World is the home of the world’s only “Slotharium” and it is truly one of a kind! You are stepping into a rainforest-inspired indoor habitat where more than 40 sloths live on their terms. Instead of a petting zoo experience, you enter their world and learn from trained sloth care experts who guide you through every moment.

No, but for the best reason. Being held by humans can cause unnecessary stress, and we want our sloths to remain self-sufficient, confident, and healthy. Letting them move freely in their environment supports their well-being and longevity.

Feeding is a no-go. Sloths follow carefully formulated diets managed by our USDA-certified care team and developed in collaboration with the scientific community. These diets support long-term health and ongoing research, and even small changes could disrupt that work.

Yes. Mobility devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters are permitted throughout Sloth World, including inside the “Slotharium”. Our pathways are designed to accommodate mobility aids, and our team is happy to assist with any navigation questions.

For the safety and well-being of our sloths, service animals are not permitted inside the “Slotharium,” as sloths are highly sensitive to unfamiliar animals. Service animals are welcome in other public areas, including our shop.

If you rely on a service animal or need additional accommodations, please contact our team before your visit so we can discuss options and help plan your experience.

Groups are kept small on purpose. We allow only 10 to 15 guests per guided experience to preserve the quiet, gentle atmosphere our sloths need to feel safe and relaxed.

Guests of all ages are welcome at Sloth World. To protect the calm soundscape our sloths rely on, we may limit the number of young children within a single group. Our team may also step in if noise or behavior becomes disruptive, and in rare cases, guests may be asked to step out to help maintain a peaceful environment for the animals and other visitors.

To reserve your visit, head to our ticket page and purchase your ticket online. During our presale period, tickets are purchased without selecting a date or time. Once our official opening date is confirmed, presale guests will receive an email with the order details, inviting them to choose their preferred date and time.

After the presale, guests can select their date and time during checkout and reschedule at no additional cost if their plans change.

Think warm, calm, and completely unhurried. The habitat is maintained between 78-82°F (26-28°C) with humidity levels around 75–85%, creating conditions similar to a tropical rainforest. Soft lighting and gentle ambient sounds mimic the natural environment that sloths love.

Each ticket includes:

  • Entry into the “Slotharium” during your selected time
  • A fully guided expedition led by trained sloth experts and ambassadors
  • Observation of natural sloth behavior within a free-roaming rainforest setting
  • Support for active rescue and conservation work in South America
  • Contribution to sloth conservation, education, and scientific research

Gift shop items may be returned within 30 days of purchase. Tickets are refundable up to 24 hours before your scheduled visit and can be transferred to another guest or rescheduled at no additional cost. You can view our full refund and rescheduling policies here.

How We Protect and Study Sloths

Yes, very much so! Sloths in our care can live up to 55 years, compared to an average of 8 to 12 years in the wild. At Sloth World, sloths live in a protected environment without threats like predators, live power lines, or habitat-related diseases. They also receive expert veterinary oversight from USDA Level 2 Veterinarians and daily care from our trained Sloth World Ambassador Team.

Our sloths come from a variety of situations across South America and beyond. Some arrive from regions affected by deforestation or mining, others are rehomed from private individuals who can no longer care for them, and some come from facilities that lack the resources or expertise to support their needs. While we do not breed sloths, our animals live comfortably and may naturally reproduce here, something guests can observe at Sloth World.

Your visit directly funds rescue work in South America, supplies for local rehab centers, and scientific studies that help the world better understand sloth health and behavior. Every ticket contributes to real conservation impact.

Yes! We collaborate with the University of Florida and other researchers to support publishable studies on sloth health and behavior. Much of our data is shared freely to help scientists worldwide improve sloth conservation. In fact, Sloth World will host leading researchers throughout the year to study the animals in ways that have never been done before anywhere in the world.

Sloths are among the hardest mammals to study in the wild, often living more than 100 feet high in the rainforest canopy, where routine exams and long-term monitoring are rarely possible. At Sloth World, researchers can observe behavior, nutrition, health trends, enrichment, and recovery over time. We collaborate with universities and sloth specialists to gather meaningful data that helps close critical knowledge gaps and advance sloth care worldwide.

The entire 7,500-square-foot habitat is designed around their natural needs. Warm temps, quiet spaces, tall climbing structures, and a cage-free layout allow sloths to move, rest, and explore exactly as they prefer.

Sloth World financially supports rehab centers in Guyana that care for displaced animals, many from active deforestation zones. We also maintain one of the largest sloth data collections available to researchers at no cost.

How Our Team Cares for the Sloths

Our sloths are cared for by a team of highly trained professionals who specialize in sloth behavior, nutrition, and veterinary science. All care protocols are overseen by our USDA Level 2 Veterinarian, Jenn Lane, ensuring every sloth receives consistent, ethical, and science-informed care focused on long-term well-being.

Everything we do is based on the sloths’ comfort and autonomy. That means no touching, no handling for entertainment, no stressful interactions, and no forced behavior. Our team designs each day around what is healthiest and most natural for the animals in our care.

Yes, and that is what makes the experience so special. The people guiding you through the “Slotharium” are the same experts who care for the sloths every day. They know each sloth’s personality, habits, and story, and they love sharing that knowledge with guests.

Sloth World is led by a USDA-certified veterinary team, with advanced care overseen by Jenn Lane, our experienced veterinarian, who is known for handling complex cases. From routine checkups to specialized treatments, she ensures every sloth receives individualized care.

Pete Bandre, our Vice President, is one of the most respected sloth experts in the world. He wrote the leading textbook on sloth care and has helped bring 90% of the sloths currently living in U.S. exhibits into safe, professional environments. His knowledge shapes everything we do!

Our team spends hours each day observing movement patterns, sleep cycles, social interactions, and feeding behaviors. Sloths are still scientifically understudied, so even simple observations help expand global understanding of their needs.

Daily care includes preparing meals, engaging in enrichment activities, cleaning the habitat, monitoring temperature, and conducting wellness checks. Our Quarantine Managers also support new arrivals and sloths with special needs, ensuring everyone receives focused attention.
